Brazil in the first half of 2023 electricity, real estate aluminum consumption growth

According to data from the Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL), the consumption of aluminum in Brazil has improved in the first half of 2023, benefiting from the demand driven by various industrial sectors.
 
In the first half of the year, aluminum consumption in the Brazilian power industry increased by 11.5%, mainly due to the continuous improvement of wind and solar power generation capacity in Brazil, driving the demand for aluminum cables and new transmission lines.
 
In the first half of the year, thanks to the warming of the real estate market, aluminum consumption in the civil construction industry increased by 7%.
 
In the first half of the year, the transportation industry also promoted the growth of aluminum consumption in Brazil, of which automobile production increased by 3.7%, bus body production increased by 27%, and aluminum consumption increased by 2.9%.
 
In the first half of the year, the packaging industry performed poorly, especially the consumption of aluminum cans for beverages and consumer goods fell by 4.8%, resulting in the overall aluminum consumption of the packaging industry falling by 13.8% in the first half of the year. According to the previous outlook of relevant institutions, it is expected that the global packaging industry aluminum demand will increase by about 3.3% to 15.19 million tons in 2023, accounting for about 16% of the total global aluminum consumption.
 
In the first half of the year, Brazil's domestic consumption of aluminum products fell 3.6% year-on-year to 723,800 tons, of which 88% of the consumption was supplied by Brazil, accounting for 4.5% less than last year.
 
As of the first half of 2023, Brazil's aluminum industry achieved a trade surplus of 1.3 billion US dollars, including exports of 2.3 billion US dollars and imports of 1.02 billion US dollars; Exports of aluminum and its products increased by 8.9%, while imports fell by 12.9%.
