The green and low-carbon aluminum evaluation will be officially launched on October 8

In order to promote the consumption of green electric aluminum and promote the high-quality development of the aluminum industry with green and low-carbon as the base color and characteristics, the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and the China Nonferrous Metals Society issued the group standard T/CNIA 0245-2024 "Green and low-carbon Aluminum Evaluation Guidelines and Traceability Guidelines" on June 27, 2024, and began to implement on September 1, 2024. In order to respond to national policies, meet industry requirements and meet market needs, the Green Product Evaluation Center of the China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association has improved the relevant evaluation process according to the standard, formulated the material list, and all the preparatory work for the evaluation of green and low-carbon aluminum has been ready. From October 8, 2024, aluminum industry related production enterprises can submit green low-carbon aluminum evaluation applications to the evaluation center.
According to Ma Cunzhen, chairman of the National Non-ferrous Metals Standardization Technical Committee and director of the Green Product Evaluation Center of the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association, green electric aluminum and recycled aluminum have distinct green and low-carbon attributes, and promoting the integration of the two is the only way for the green and low-carbon development of China's aluminum industry. According to the definition of this standard, green low-carbon aluminum refers to the first commercial aluminum product formed by the combination of green electric aluminum raw materials and recycled aluminum raw materials in the melting and casting process. The development of green and low-carbon aluminum related standards has clarified the concept of green and low-carbon aluminum and solved many problems that cannot be solved in the market. Green and low-carbon aluminum evaluation will give priority to focusing on aluminum products with urgent market demand, severe foreign trade pressure, outstanding emission reduction contribution, complete data collection, and obvious industrial chain supply chain.
According to statistics from the China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association, in 2023, China's theoretical production of green aluminum exceeds 10 million tons, and the production of recycled aluminum reaches 9.5 million tons. China's aluminum industry has a good foundation and conditions for the integration of green aluminum and recycled aluminum. By carrying out the green and low-carbon aluminum evaluation, it will provide the market with green and low-carbon aluminum products with sufficient credibility endorsement, meet the rapidly increasing demand for green and low-carbon aluminum in relevant domestic applications, and provide sufficient basis for Chinese aluminum products to enter the international market and deal with green trade barriers, and further enhance the voice and competitiveness of Chinese aluminum products in the international market.
