According to foreign media reports, on March 6, Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo once again announced at the 67th anniversary of Ghana’s independence that Ghana will be committed to refining locally mined bauxite and supply the produced alumina to Volta Aluminum ( VALCO) and the wider downstream aluminum industry.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that this move means the end of Ghana’s bauxite export era. The development of alumina refining will help Ghana produce a variety of necessities such as parts for motor vehicles, aircraft, roofing sheets and household appliances, while also providing broad employment potential.
