Aluminum exports from Bahrain dropped by 14.21% to 454,300 tons in the first five months of 2026.

August 18, 2026
According to foreign media reports, in the first five months of 2026, Bahrain's aluminum product exports witnessed a significant year-on-year decline, including unprocessed aluminum, aluminum bars, aluminum rods, aluminum profiles, aluminum foil, aluminum tubes, aluminum plates, aluminum strips, pipe fittings, and aluminum wires.

In the first five months, Bahrain exported 454,300 tons of aluminum products, a decrease of 14.21% compared to the same period in 2025, with 529,600 tons exported in 2025.

The decline in export volume was mainly due to the continuous conflicts in the Middle East, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz hindering trade among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the Mandeb Strait, which is an important transportation route for Bahrain's majority of trade - including aluminum - and has recently become a battleground for the competition between Iran and the United States, further hindering the transportation of aluminum exports from Bahrain.

In addition, since mid-March, Bahrain Aluminum (Alba) has been operating at a lower capacity. Its No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 electrolysis cell production lines have been subject to controlled shutdown, resulting in 19% of Bahrain Aluminum's annual capacity of 1.62 million tons being idle.
