Hydro collaborates with Siemens Mobility Group to recycle aluminum from retired trains
September 17, 2026
According to the Hydro official website, Hydro will collaborate with Siemens Mobility Group, TSR Group and Voestalpine to recycle aluminum from retired trains for the production of new railway components.
In this pilot study, the Ghlin recycling plant under Hydro's control in Belgium will be responsible for recycling the aluminum from retired trains. This aluminum comes from TSR Group, which has dismantled these railway vehicles and collected the materials. TSR will also recover steel from railway vehicles and transport it to Voestalpine for recycling and further production.
After the recycled waste aluminum is melted, it will be processed into extrusion ingots and then sent to the Lichtervelde extrusion plant under Hydro's control in Belgium for production.
