In May, the share of Russian aluminium in LME warehouses declined, while the share of Indian metals soared

June 11, 2025
On Tuesday, June 10th, data from the London Metal Exchange (LME) showed that the share of available aluminum inventory from Russian origin in LME registered warehouses dropped to 69% in May from 89% in April, while the share from Indian origin jumped from 10% to 30%. The LME has banned metals produced by Russia after April 13, 2024, from entering its storage systems to comply with the sanctions imposed by the United States and the United Kingdom on Russia for its special military operation against Ukraine in 2022. However, metals produced before that date can still be traded. As of the end of May, the inventory of aluminium produced in Russia or authorized aluminium decreased from 223,900 tons at the end of April to 221,925 tons. Data shows that aluminium inventories in India have soared from 25,050 tons to 97,950 tons.
