India has initiated its first anti-dumping sunset review investigation on aluminum foil related to China

On September 29, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued a notice stating that In response to domestic Indian enterprises Raviraj Foils Ltd., LSKB Aluminium Foils Pvt. Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., Shyam Sel and Power Ltd., Shree Venkateshwara Electrocast Pvt. Ltd. and the application submitted by SRF Altech Ltd. to initiate the first anti-dumping sunset review investigation on Aluminium Foil 80 Micron and Below with a thickness of less than or equal to 80 microns originating from or imported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The Indian customs codes of the involved products are 76071190, 76072090, 76072010, 76071110, 76071999, 76071991, 76071995, 76071910, 76071994, 76071993 and 76071992. The dumping investigation period for this case is from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 (12 months). The damage investigation period is from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, and from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.

On June 20, 2020, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued an announcement stating that in response to domestic Indian enterprises Hindalco Industries Ltd. and Raviraj Foils Ltd. In response to the application submitted by Jindal India Ltd, an anti-dumping investigation was initiated against aluminium foil with a thickness of less than or equal to 80 microns originating from or imported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. On June 18, 2021, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India made a positive final ruling on this case. On September 16, 2021, the Revenue Board of the Ministry of Finance of India issued Notification No. 51/2021-Customs(ADD), deciding to impose anti-dumping duties on aluminum foil with a thickness of no more than 80 microns originating from or imported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand for a period of five years. Among them, The prices in China range from 398.45 to 976.99 US dollars per ton, in Indonesia from 422.28 US dollars per ton, in Malaysia from 850.45 US dollars per ton, and in Thailand from 93.53 to 339.93 US dollars per ton. The following products are exempt from tax: aluminum foil with a thickness ranging from 5.5 microns to 80 microns, aluminum laminates, ultra-light gauge conversion aluminum foil, aluminum foil composites, aluminum foil for capacitors with a width not exceeding 500 millimeters, etched or formed aluminum foil, aluminum-plastic panels, coated aluminum foil, aluminum foil for beer bottles, aluminum-manganese-silicon alloy and/or coated aluminum-manganese-silicon alloy, aluminum foil tape, and color-coated aluminum foil.
