February 6, 2026
According to foreign media reports, on February 4, Kazakhstan signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with Open Element of the United States and Hands of South Korea to establish the country's first modern aluminum wheel manufacturing plant.
The project includes the construction of a high-tech manufacturing plant, in which Kazakhstan Astana Automobile and its international partners will participate. The plant will be the first production plant in Kazakhstan with a complete process for aluminum wheels.
It is reported that the project is expected to deepen the localization process of the automotive industry, reduce dependence on imports, stimulate the development of related industries, and strengthen Kazakhstan's industrial base. Foreign partners noted the steady growth in car production in Kazakhstan as an important factor in choosing the country as the location of the project.
The project is in line with Kazakhstan's long-term strategy to become a major producer and regional supplier of auto parts.
