According to foreign media reports, Atlantic Alumina Co. (ATALCO), the only operating alumina refinery in the United States, announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOW) and Concord Resources Holdings Ltd., and also collaborated with the major shareholder of Concord - a fund managed by the commodities investment company Pinnacle Asset Management, LP - to maintain and increase domestic alumina production and establish the first and only large-scale native gallium production facility in the United States. The cooperation project is expected to produce over 1 million tons of alumina and up to 50 tons of gallium annually in Gramercy, Louisiana.
ATALCO will provide its American customers (including aluminum smelters and key mineral users in various industries) with a stable supply of alumina, and has the capacity to meet all the gallium demands of the United States (including the U.S. Department of Defense and domestic innovative enterprises in the U.S.).
ATALCO mines bauxite in a mining area located on the northern coast of Jamaica. It is claimed that the silica content of its bauxite is among the lowest in the world, with the alumina content exceeding 46%.
