According to foreign media reports, Brijendra Pratap Singh, the chairman and general manager of India National Aluminium Company (NALCO), recently announced the schedule for the expansion project of the 500,000-ton-per-year smelter at the Angul plant in Odisha.
He disclosed that the total investment for the proposed expansion of the aluminum smelter project and the 100MW power plant配套 to the smelter is approximately 250 billion Indian rupees (2.62 billion US dollars). Currently, a technical supplier for the proposed expansion project has been determined, namely EGA (United Arab Emirates Global Aluminum).
He said: "We plan to sign a technology licensing agreement with EGA this month. The exact date might be the 10th or 15th of this month."
The detailed project report (DPR) is expected to be released within the next three to four months, and the board of directors will approve it by November at the latest.
He predicts that the foundation construction of this facility will commence in the autumn of next year and the construction period will last for three years.
He emphasized: "According to the schedule, by December 2030, we must complete the construction of this factory and the power plant."
The Indian National Aluminium Company has signed a joint venture agreement with Neyveli Lignite to jointly build a power plant. Singh stated that this will ensure a reduction in capital expenditure and guarantee the security of raw material supply.
He also added that the coal needed by the power plant will be supplied from the Talcher area.
