The United States added beer and empty aluminum cans to the list of derivative products subject to 25% aluminum tariffs

According to Reuters, the Trump administration said on Wednesday that it would impose a 25 percent tariff on all imported beer, and added beer and empty aluminum cans to the list of derivative products subject to aluminum tariffs.
In a notice published in the Federal Register, the Commerce Department said it would impose tariffs on beer and empty aluminum cans starting at 0:01 a.m. Et on Friday, April 4.
The notice was issued just hours before Trump was expected to announce sweeping reciprocal tariffs on U.S. trading partners.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, beer imports in the United States exceeded $7.5 billion in 2024. Mexico is the top importer of U.S. beer, with $6.3 billion in imports last year, followed by the Netherlands ($683 million), Ireland ($192 million) and Canada ($73 million).
