According to foreign media reports, sources have disclosed that Guinea, the world's largest producer of bauxite, is considering requiring mining companies to limit bauxite exports in order to prevent a sharp drop in bauxite prices. The government is currently conducting internal discussions and is expected to require mining companies to export according to the export quotas in the future.
Since January 2025, the price of bauxite has plummeted by approximately 50%.
The source added that if the mining companies in Guinea's aluminum ore production exceed the production volume outlined in their license applications or in the production plans stipulated in their licenses, they may be required to limit their export volume to the level specified in their mining licenses.
According to sources, the output of some companies has more than doubled, or even tripled - all of which far exceed the production quotas stipulated in their mining licenses.
In 2025, Guinea's export volume of bauxite will be close to 183 million tons, an increase of 25% compared to 2024. It is reported that Guinea's bauxite accounts for more than 70% of the global bauxite supply. In 2023, Guinea surpassed Australia to become the world's largest producer of bauxite. Australia exported approximately 45 million tons of bauxite in 2025.
