July 1, 2025
Official data shows that Guinea's bauxite exports soared by 39% in the first quarter to a record 48.6 million tons, although the crackdown by regulatory authorities has dealt a blow to major operators. Guinea is the world's second-largest producer of bauxite. Bauxite is the raw material for aluminium production. According to data from Guinea's Ministry of Mines and Geology, in the first quarter, Guinea loaded 312 vessels and exported 48.6 million tons of bauxite, while in the same period of 2024, it loaded 225 vessels and exported 34.9 million tons. Bernabe Sanchez, an independent mineral economist focused on Guinea, said the current weekly export volume of 3.7 million tons indicates that the annualized export volume in 2025 will be 199 million tons, higher than 146 million tons last year.
