According to foreign media reports, Ilhom Abdurakhmon, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Azerbaijan, stated that Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are discussing a potential industrial cooperation - Tajikistan will import alumina from Azerbaijan and supply aluminum to the Azerbaijani market.
The Inter-Governmental Trade and Economic Cooperation Committee between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan recently held a meeting in Baku. During the meeting, both sides had discussions and expressed their interest in expanding cooperation in the aluminum sector.
Tajikistan plans to purchase alumina from Azerbaijan to support the development of its aluminum production industry; at the same time, the increasing demand for aluminum in Azerbaijan also provides potential export markets for Tajikistan's producers. Ambassador Abdurakhmo stated that favorable logistics and market conditions are expected to facilitate Tajikistan's aluminum exports to Azerbaijan in the near future. He also pointed out that although Azerbaijan has its own aluminum production facilities, it still needs to continuously import aluminum.
Tajik Aluminium (TALCO) and Azerbaijan Aluminium (Azeraluminium) have maintained a cooperative relationship for many years. Against the backdrop of persistently high global aluminium prices, the two parties are continuing to explore new areas for cooperation.
The two sides focused on discussing the modernization and restart of the Aluminium Plant in Ganja, Azerbaijan. If the plant resumes operation, Tajikistan can purchase aluminium from Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Abdurakhmon stated that the potential cooperation between the two parties still requires a commercial assessment by relevant companies, including transportation costs and overall profitability.
