The European Aluminium Association is reported to have called for no sanctions against Rusal

European Aluminium trade group European Aluminium has considered lobbying the EU to impose sanctions on Rusal, but excluded Russia's largest aluminium producer Rusal from the sanctions, Reuters reported on July 14, citing a document. The document, dated July 2023, shows that members of the European Aluminum Association have discussed the possibility of "actively calling on the EU to sanction Russian aluminum." But the documents also show that while it is feasible to replace Russian ingot with other supplies in Europe, the wide spread of Rusal's operations around the world makes sanctions against the company difficult. Therefore, the European Aluminum Association said it recommended that the EU avoid sanctions against Rusal.
