The United Nations will assist six countries in enhancing their key mineral value chains.

The United Nations has selected six countries from Africa and Asia to receive support, helping these countries to extract more value from the key minerals that are crucial for the global energy transition. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Wednesday that this initiative will initially benefit Indonesia, Zambia, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Nigeria. UN agencies will coordinate and collaborate to help these countries develop related industries. Zambia is the second-largest copper producer in Africa, while Zimbabwe is a major supplier of lithium for batteries on the African continent. Indonesia is the world's largest nickel producer, while Guinea is the largest producer of bauxite and also possesses untapped key mineral resources. Madagascar has reserves of cobalt, graphite, and nickel. Most of Nigeria's mineral resources remain undeveloped.
