June 28, 2025
A reporter asked: Recently, relevant US officials and media said that China and the United States have reached supplementary understanding on implementing the framework of the Geneva Consensus. China will accelerate the export of rare earths to the United States, and the US will accordingly lift relevant restrictive measures against China. May I ask what comment the Ministry of Commerce has on this?
Answer: Under the guidance of the consensus reached by the heads of state of China and the United States, the economic and trade teams of the two sides held economic and trade talks in London from June 9th to 10th, and reached a principle agreement on the framework for implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their phone call on June 5th and consolidating the achievements of the economic and trade talks in Geneva. After the talks in London, the teams of China and the United States maintained close communication. Recently, with approval, both sides further confirmed the framework details. China will approve the export applications of controlled items that meet the conditions in accordance with the law. The US side will accordingly lift a series of restrictive measures taken against China. It is expected that the US side will work with China in the same direction, in accordance with the important consensus and requirements reached by the two heads of state during their phone call on June 5th, further play the role of the China-Us economic and trade consultation mechanism, continuously enhance consensus, reduce misunderstandings, strengthen cooperation, and jointly promote the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-Us economic and trade relations.
