Yuefeng Aluminum Successfully Develops Ultra-Thin Aluminum Foil

December 12, 2025
Recently, Yuefeng Aluminum New Materials Co., Ltd. achieved a significant technological breakthrough in high-precision aluminum processing by successfully rolling ultra-thin “single-zero” aluminum foil with a thickness of just 0.05 mm. The product demonstrates outstanding performance in critical parameters such as thickness uniformity, flatness, and surface quality, meeting the stringent requirements of high-end applications.

The 0.05 mm ultra-thin single-zero aluminum foil strikes an optimal balance among barrier properties, flexibility, lightweight design, and cost-effectiveness. It is widely used in premium food packaging, electronic components, building insulation, and other advanced sectors. However, rolling aluminum foil at this specification has long posed industry-wide challenges—including strip breakage, difficulty in shape control, and extremely tight tolerances for thickness uniformity—placing rigorous demands on equipment precision, process control, and raw material quality.

During product development, Yuefeng formed a dedicated technical team that built upon its prior experience in producing 0.07 mm and 0.09 mm ultra-thin single-zero foils. Leveraging the No. 8 cold tandem mill from the Phase I project of Dongxing Jiayu’s high-end aluminum sheet and coil deep-processing facility as the core platform, the team innovatively adopted a high-precision “speed–tension” coordinated control strategy to systematically address these challenges.

To tackle the critical issue of strip breakage caused by the difficulty in maintaining equilibrium between tension and rolling force during high-speed operation, the team optimized the control logic and developed a dynamic speed–tension coupling model. This innovation enabled adaptive, precise tension regulation even as rolling speeds reached 1,100 meters per minute, ensuring continuous and stable production.

In thickness and flatness control, the team deeply integrated tension management with closed-loop thickness regulation. Real-time data from high-precision thickness gauges at both entry and exit points triggered millisecond-level hydraulic adjustments, complemented by roll thermal crown compensation technology. This established a three-dimensional coordinated control system—“speed–tension–thickness”—which ultimately maintained thickness variation across the entire strip width within ±0.001 mm, achieving flatness standards required for premium-grade products.

“As even minor fluctuations in raw materials can affect rolling stability,” explained the deputy shift supervisor of the cold rolling unit, “we implemented strict raw material screening and pre-treatment protocols.” Through extensive trials, the team also built a comprehensive database linking raw material properties with optimal process parameters, enabling rapid adaptation of rolling settings for different material batches and effectively resolving the challenge of co-optimizing materials and processing.

This successful production of 0.05 mm ultra-thin single-zero aluminum foil not only establishes a complete manufacturing process for such advanced material but also lays a solid technical foundation for future mass production and market expansion. Yuefeng Aluminum will continue refining its mass-production processes for ultra-thin foils, further scaling up capacity and driving the company toward higher-value, precision-focused aluminum processing.
