Guinea will announce its measures for controlling the export of bauxite in June.

May 26, 2026
As the world's largest producer of bauxite, Guinea plans to announce relevant reform measures next month to control the export volume of this mineral used in the production of aluminum, as it is striving to increase the aluminum price.

The output of bauxite in Guinea accounts for more than one third of the global total.

In 2025, the country's bauxite export volume soared by a quarter, reaching 183 million tons; and in the first three months of this year, the export growth momentum accelerated further.

According to Bunai Sila, the country's minister of mining and geology, this situation has led to a market downturn, and the price of bauxite has dropped by nearly half from its peak at the beginning of last year.

Silla said, "Supply must not exceed demand. We hope to bring the prices back to a reasonable level by regulating the quantity of exports."

The minister disclosed that the government is expected to officially finalize this new policy in June - the details of which had already emerged several months ago.
